Snoring Solutions You Can Try Tonight

My husband snores, not every night and sometimes not even loud enough to bother me, but sometimes he sounds like a chainsaw.  We have tried to figure out the causes for his snoring and have not come up with one definitive cause, but there are some simple solutions that have worked.  Snoring can be a sign of a more serious sleep disorder, sleep apnea; this condition can be life-threatening and should be professionally treated.  My husband’s occasional light snoring is not a medical concern, just an annoying cause of temporary insomnia for me.  The following are some easy snoring solutions you may want to try, even tonight.

Sleep on your side.  When you sleep on your back your air passages can become blocked and sleeping on your side will keep the passages open.  This will only work if the snorer sleeps on their side all night and doesn’t resort to sleeping on their back halfway through the night.

Dairy products can cause more phlegm than usual and this can block air passages, resulting in snoring.  Limiting dairy products throughout the day and eliminating all dairy at least four hours before bed may help.

If you must sleep on your back, then elevating your head may help to stop snoring.  You can prop a bunch of pillows under your head or you can purchase a bed wedge designed for this specific purpose.  Raising the head improves blocked air passages caused by for sleeping on your back.

Something as simple as putting an air filter in the bedroom may be a solution to snoring; particularly if the snorer suffers from allergies.  An air filter can remove pet dander and other allergens from the air and help lessen allergy symptoms like a stuffy nose that can cause snoring.  Just be sure to start the air filter a few hours before bed and keep it running all night.

The last solution may sound like something your grandmother would tell you, eat honey.  Honey soothes the throat and helps keep airways clear.  This is something that is simple to do and if it works may be the easiest solution there is.

Depending on what your snoring is caused form these solutions may or may not work, however they are at least worth a try.  You may find one that works for you or your partner and you both will enjoy a peaceful night.
