Every experienced surgical technician should be aware of the three phases of patient and surgical are management. Mastering all three will ensure that they will be compensated with a high surgical tech salary and be eligible for promotions and pay increases. Without the knowledge of how to complete each sufficiently, an individual cannot expect to be successful in this position. The three phases are categorized into preoperative case management, intraoperative case management, and postoperative case management.

Preoperative case duties are numerous and typically are maintenance cases. A surgical technician will need to prepare and gather the necessary tools for an operation. Along with this, they will have to check the supplies and ensure that all the equipment is ready to be used and sterile before they enter the operating room.

In the intraoperative phase, each surgical techician is responsible for paying attention to the procedure and handing the surgeon the right tools accordingly. They must also handle any specimens, prepare the medication, and assist with dressings as well.

The postoperative management phase involves finishing up the procedure. This typically includes maintaining the sterile area until a patient is transported out, removing all of the used instruments, and cleaning each tool carefully for the next procedure. They will also prepare the room and the equipment for the next patient that is coming in.

It is important that each surgical tech understands that they are basically an assistant for the surgeon. They are present to help make the surgeon’s job easier and help the procedures run smoothly. In order for this to happen, the tech must be always on their toes and know what needs to be done next. Keeping everything sterile and ready are essential parts of the job, along with the qualities of being extremely detail oriented and able to concentrate fully throughout their entire work day.

There are so many benefits and rewards to being a nurse or a nurses assistant. Many of them you can probably see first hand yourself by being a patient in a hospital setting, by being a nurse yourself, working with nurses, or just plain being one!

Prestige

Being a nurse is something to be proud of. It is a role that people look up to. You are seen as a caring individual who has experience and a lot of expertise in what you do. People will gravitate to you and look at you as an expert in all health matters. They will want to be your friend and they will seek your advice and opinions.

Sense of Accomplishment

The role you perform as a nurse in helping others get well and feel better may be enough of a benefit to go into this career path. Choosing a CNA career means a lifetime of helping people – there is simply nothing better than helping someone out. The rewards you get will outweigh any negatives you may come across along the way. You will go home with a good feeling at night. The satisfaction in knowing that you helped someone. If not helping them get well, you were there for that person in their time of need, and you were there for their loved ones.

Flexibility

The work hours and schedules for being a nurse are somewhat flexible. If you work long shifts, you will get the same amount of time off in return. It is great for planning a mini vacation or somewhere or just for relaxing and getting things done around the house. Not only are the hours flexible in working as a nurse, but the location is also flexible. Nurses are in demand everywhere you turn and these jobs are not going anywhere. This is a role that will never go out of style and it will never be replaced by a machine. If you want to move to another country, nurses are required there as well. It should be relatively easy to find a nursing job in another company if you have the credentials from your home country. If not, there may be refresher courses you can take to brush up on any new requirements.

Financial Rewards

Financially, being a nurse isn’t as good as being say a doctor of course, but you are well rewarded for your efforts at work. Nursing is a career that is stable and because the work isn’t going away, neither will your income if you continue to work professionally. You will be well compensated for a job well done.

Challenge

Being a nurse is not easy, but since this is a benefits article, we should mention that challenges can be good. They are good for variety in the working environment. Who get’s bored with being a nurse? Nobody. There is always something to do and best of all each day is different. You go into work one day and leave it after your shift not knowing what the next day will bring. The people are different, the situations are different and how you will react to them is different as well.

All in all, being a nurse is nothing to scoff at. It is a career that is certainly worthy of writing home about! If you are a nurse, give yourself a pat on the back for doing a difficult job and for doing it well.
